plus Culture Blog

at be+cause, we think a lot about culture as a powerful vehicle and arena for change. It is also something we like to create--from producing the Tibetan Freedom Concerts to starting a clothing line to assisting other culture makers in their efforts to create positive social change. Being part of a lab (our parent company is C3 Lab), we like to innovate and experiment. This blog is where you can see it happen.

NYC Consumers Get Lucky

Lately, it seems like there are a lot of these types of stores popping up but it looks like the eco-boutique Kaight is doing something right: the design and style of each product gets just as much priority as the eco. As we get closer to moving our office and on-line store to a real space we are getting excited about designing, finding and selling things that are are sustainable, have a story behind them and are pleasing to the eye.

Kaight opened last August and is getting lots of good press and just by looking at the product selection and their attitude to eco products I can see why. The space on Orchard street looks is very appealing and they have an online store for those that can't get to the Lower East Side anytime soon. This boutique is on my radar for my next trip to NYC!

How to know what will be the next big thing.

Another great NY Times article about cultural organizing...sort of. This one is about how cultural markets work, why it is impossible to predict what the next big thing is, and why the next big thing is big. I think that this has huge implications for causes that employ cultural strategies. A must-read, for sure...and damned fascinating research too, says my geek side.
